David Henry

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of David Henry, on May 6, 2026 in St. Joseph’s Hospice following a courageous battle with cancer.

Dave was born on February 3, 1956 in Fort William, Ontario, to Donald and Edna Henry and was the second of four children. He was raised in the Green Acres neighbourhood and attended Westgate High school. At a young age, he relocated to Regina and began work in the telecommunications industry. He eventually returned to Thunder Bay and joined TBaytel. He had a 35+ year career and often spoke with pride of his role installing many of TBaytel’s network systems.

In his earlier years, he coached in the city’s Little League baseball program and earned his share of city and provincial championships. He also enjoyed playing mixed slow-pitch, skiing, camping, building/fixing anything, and was an avid gardener, with often bountiful harvests. As a sports fanatic, it was rare a game wasn’t on the tv. Followed by text and call updates to friends on how his team was doing or how bad their team was doing. A long-suffering Toronto Maple Leaf and Vikings fan, he had some relief when the Toronto Blue Jays would enjoy success.

Dave and his wife Janis built a life together in Thunder Bay and their home was often a pit stop for friends and family. They genuinely enjoyed spending time with people they loved. Camping, backyard beers, bonfires, the hockey rink, and parties are all fond memories. Dave’s pride and joy was his daughter Jana, son-in law Jordan, and grandson Jay. Dave enjoyed following Jana’s hockey career with the Queens and CSS Saints. He rarely missed a game and was a proud dad. Tournaments and trips to Duluth and Minneapolis were a highlight for him.

Dave is survived by his daughter Jana O’Neill, son-in-law Jordan, grandson Jay, brother Doug Henry (Melanie and nieces Carly (Mason), Kimberly, Kelsey (Ethan), sister-in-law Vicki Thorne (niece Kelly (Mitch), nephew Turner), brother-in-law Gord Galvin (Michelle), in-laws Gary and Marion Ball, Jayne Wark, and numerous cousins.

He is further survived by lifelong friends Len and Chris Adduono, Clody Marson, Sid Adduono, Jim Johnson, Dan Stokaluk, and Rob Zuback. The stories Dave would tell of your time together will forever bring joy and laughter. You meant the world to him.

He was pre-deceased by his wife Janis, his parents Donald and Edna Henry, his sister Susan Galvin, his sister Sheila Smith, his brother-in-law Doug Smith, sister-in-law Susan Flagel, brother-in-law Gary Thorne and father-in-law Wayne Foster.

The family would like to thank the staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph’s Hospital for the care and compassion Dave received. Also, thank you to friends and family who supported Dave throughout his illness. Your kindness made a true difference in his life.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
