September 30, 1967 – May 8, 2026
Simon Georges Desaulniers passed away peacefully at home in Longlac, Ontario, on May 8, 2026, at the age of 58.
Born on September 30, 1967, in Geraldton, Ontario, Simon was raised in Longlac, the community he proudly called home throughout his life. Longlac was more than where he lived. It was where he built lifelong friendships, raised his family, and became someone so many people relied on.
Simon was a devoted and loving father to his four children, Mathieu, Alicia, Paul, and Éric. His children were the centre of his world and one of his greatest sources of happiness. He was also a proud grandfather to Léo, Olivier, and William, who brought him endless joy and laughter.
He is survived by his siblings Johanne, Pierre, Jeannot, Louise, Claude, and René, all of whom he cherished deeply. Simon carried countless stories and memories that reflected the admiration and affection he had for each of them. Being the younger brother was something he embraced wholeheartedly, and he often spoke fondly of the experiences, lessons, and moments they shared throughout the years.
Simon was predeceased by his father, Rudolphe “Rudy” Desaulniers in 2015, his mother, Bernadette Rose-Aimée Desaulniers in 2022, and his brother, Ronald Robert Joseph Desaulniers in 2024. Family meant everything to Simon, and he was always there when he was needed most. In his father’s later years, he devoted much of his time to caring for him with patience, compassion, and quiet strength. He also stood beside his brother Ron throughout his illness, offering unwavering support, love, and companionship.
Simon loved sports and had a deep passion for skiing, music, and spending time with the people he cared about most. He had a larger-than-life personality and was often described as the life of the party. Known to many in town as “Toaster,” the nickname stayed with him for decades and became part of who he was. Simon had a gift for making people laugh, bringing others together, and making every room feel lighter the moment he walked in. Though playful and humorous, he was also determined and strong-willed. He stood firm in what he believed while remaining thoughtful and respectful toward others. His loved ones often said that having Simon around was like sharing a glass of fine red wine, warm, comforting, and something to be appreciated and savoured.
Beyond his loved ones and close friendships, Simon cared deeply about his community and volunteered wherever he could. He was always willing to lend a hand when it was needed. Hockey was a major part of his life. Whether as a player, coach, mentor, or passionate supporter, he loved the game and the people around it. He found great joy in encouraging younger players, sharing his knowledge, and connecting with others through sports. He became a familiar and welcoming presence in Longlac and left a lasting impression on many throughout the years.
An electrician by trade, Simon took immense pride in his work and built a respected career through dedication, skill, and reliability. After graduating from Algonquin College, he worked at Weldwood, Kruger, OCWA, and most recently TC Energy. Outside of his profession, Simon was always willing to help others with electrical work or household problems. He offered assistance without hesitation and never expected much in return, only kindness in its own way.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 117 Dieppe Road, Longlac, Ontario, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Simon’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the friendships he built, and the family he cared for so deeply. To those who knew him, Simon was truly a remarkable man, and he will be dearly missed.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Everest – Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street, Thunder Bay.
