City Considers Mask Program

Thunder Bay is looking into the cost of supplying tens of thousands of masks to people who can’t afford them.

Thunder Bay Community Foundation’s Executive Director Alexandra Calderon asked City Council to help a number of local organizations set up a program like that.

She requested the purchase of 75,000 disposable adult-sized masks and 1,300 child-sized disposable masks, and wants to distribute reusable masks in the future.

Current River Ward Councillor Andrew Foulds wanted city staff to give them more details before they make a decision.

“I have no idea if [the masks are] even available. I think we need to know that, and I think we need to know the cost, and do we need to have them right away?” Foulds asked.

City Council asked for a report from their staff on the cost of a possible mask program.
