Paterson Foundation Boosts Cardiac Surgery Campaign

A local charitable foundation says giving $1-million to the hospital’s heart surgery campaign was an easy decision.

The Paterson Foundation made the donation to the Our Hearts at Home campaign this afternoon.

Paterson Foundation Secretary-Treasurer Alexander Paterson notes his mother had to travel to southern Ontario for heart surgery, so his his family understands the need for cardio-vascular care close to home.

He adds it also fits closely with his grandfather Senator N. M. Paterson’s original plans for the foundation.

Chair of the Our Hearts at Home Campaign Paul Fitzpatrick calls the Paterson Foundation’s contribution “extraordinary”.

“They’ve stepped up to the plate every time healthcare is needed in Thunder Bay, dating back to the foundation of this hospital [with a contribution of] $500,000, $500,000 for the Exceptional Cancer Care campaign, and then $1-million to Our Hearts at Home campaign.”

The heart surgery campaign is now at $11.5-million out of its $14-million goal.

The campaign publicly launched this week, and officials note they are also holding their fundraiser Resolute Save a Heart Ball Saturday night.
