Lakehead Public School officials are confident things will soon be back to normal at Hammarskjold High School.
It comes after last Thursday’s arrest of two students in connection with repeated threats against the school. The charges against an 18-year-old woman and 14-year-old boy have not been proven in court.
Director of Education Ian MacRae says things were already looking up at the school after police announced they’d arrested the two suspects.
“Certainly, kids and staff were acting in a way that was befitting of a secondary school in its normal fashion. I think it would be a mistake for anyone to underestimate the resiliency of our young people.”
He explains you will see police officers at the school this week, but it’s just a precaution.
“With police officers there, I think it does provide a lot of students and staff with a sense of security, and it allows them to continue on the way they normally do. I don’t think it’s going to be a big hurdle for us.”
The public school official noted at Thursday’s conference they might know this week whether they will expel the students charged in connection to the recent threats.
