Seniors Benefit Met With Skepticism

You won’t see an elderly Thunder Bay couple splurge in one shot their $300 federal payment in the fight against COVID-19.

Gerry Wittmeier says while he’ll be using it carefully, it should have been paid in installments, and not in one amount.

“Due to the fact that many people will be spending it suddenly on the spur of the moment, and there won’t be much health benefit from it,” points out the local resident.

The local man adds he’s very concerned for future generations who he says will be paying the bill as the government spends to help Canadians through COVID-19. He adds while he appreciates the money he and his wife will each receive, he suspects there’s another motive behind it.

“My honest opinion is, I think it is for election points for Trudeau,” confesses Wittmeier.

The elderly local resident adds he and his wife won’t be spending it all at once.

“My first thing would be, while I appreciate it, our church will benefit. I will give our church the tenth which is required of us, and I think we should all do likewise,” says the Thunder Bay man.

He says since they spend much more time at home now due to COVID-19 restrictions, their bills have dropped such as for gas and car repairs.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
