Over $4,000 has been raised by a 9-year old biking to fundraise for the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation.
Michael Vita tells us he’s pushing hard, having reached 118kms so far.
“I’ve been doing over my weekly goal, 114 or something,” says Michael.
His mother Heather says the community support has been great.
“Michael’s also received quite a few donations from people we don’t know. He’s received some really inspiring messages about keep up the great work,” says his mother.
Michael plans to ride through the summer with his parents, for the hospital to use the money where it sees fit. His mother says that could buy devices which go on the end of the finger, checking oxygen and heart rate.
“A couple oximeters were funded. Each one is $1,600, so what he’s raised so far, that could’ve purchased two of those,” says Vita.
She adds many people are noticing including the Catholic school board, and Pope John Paul school students, including one girl in particular.
“They were talking about people who were inspiring in the community, and it was a school project they were doing. I think in the Grade 7 and 8 class, and she choose to feature Michael,” proclaimed the proud mom.
At last count, Michael says about $4,175 has come in.
