Revised Truck By-Law Back In New Year

It will be late January before the updated Designated Truck Route by-law is scheduled to come back to City Hall.

They agreed last night to discuss it at the January 27th meeting.

Councillors are expected to be presented with the revised version of the by-law. The previous version was rejected in June, prompting city staff to make some changes to address concerns raised at that meeting.

The updates for Councillors to debate include allowing drivers to complete multiple deliveries inside the city without returning to the truck route after each drop-off.

The revised by-law also allows the owner of a heavy truck to be charged if the driver breaks the rules, which staff says will encourage obeying the by-law.

It makes more exceptions for city vehicles that are over the weight restrictions but have to do work outside of the truck route.

The last time it came forward on October 7th, it was pushed forward to tonight to give Council more time to digest a report of a Councillor breaking conflict of interest rules.
