Preventative measures have been taken on some city streets to make sure they endure the winter.
Roads manager Brad Adams says the Python 5000 pothole filling machine has done more than just fill potholes over the summer.
“So now we’re concentrating on our main streets to get those cracks and dips and other low spots, low lying areas, smoothed out, in preparation for the winter, to prevent further potholes from occurring during the spring.”
The roads manager adds the work, some of it on Balmoral, and Algoma, is meant to prevent ice from expanding and causing potholes.
“It does make it a smoother ride, it also prevents water, especially during the spring time, getting into those cracks. And then as the temperature freezes, preventing the water from expanding in those cracks creating those potholes.”
There’s also work done on Red River Road, and Adams says James Street in the south end has been on the schedule too.
