There is unqualified local support for proposed paramedic changes in the province.
Superior North EMS Chief Wayne Gates agrees with the idea of allowing paramedics to bypass the hospital emergency room if their patients do not require it.
Gates calls the move “very positive and progressive” since EMS chiefs across Ontario have been hoping for such a change and he is glad the province “is starting to move forward with it.”
The Superior North EMS Chief tells us local paramedics are always faced with taking patients, with minor injuries, to the ER and being forced to wait several hours until they are seen by a doctor.
The EMS chief notes there are still some discussions which need to take place before the province brings in the new regulation.
