Thunder Pride is kicking off Pride Month celebrations with its annual flag-raising at City Hall.
Because of the pandemic, there is no public gathering for the flag-raising, and all of this month’s events will be held online. The theme of this year’s festivities is “Pride Lives Here” in honour of the visibility campaign started by Borderland Pride in Fort Frances.
Thunder Pride Chair Jason Veltri says they are also donating $1,000 to Roots to Harvest’s COVID-19 Family Food Program.
“Our organization supporting another community service organization shows that ‘we are all in this together’ as we fight COVID-19 and feed our community,” Veltri says.
As a new addition to this year’s festivities, Thunder Pride is encouraging the community to decorate your sidewalk, driveway, or windows with rainbows to show support for the 2SLGBTIQ+ communities in Thunder Bay.
Yesterday, Thunder Pride sold out of Pride Lives Here lawn signs.
“It exceeded our expectations, we always hope to run out of signs but you just never know and we ran out around 3 o’clock. The support from the community is just wonderful. Knowing that we can’t be together that was one way we could come together and come together to display our pride,” Veltri said.
