Tal Morgan

May 27, 1932 – October 10, 2025

In the early morning of October 10, 2025, Emrys Talfryn Morgan, at the age of 93, slipped away peacefully to be reunited with his beloved wife, sister and parents. Tal was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.

Tal was a man of faith and courage, committed to family and community in an exceptional way. Tal led us by example, sharing his love and light through his hands, his heart, his time and his beautiful gift of singing.

Tal was always on the go, except when he sat for a short break and his eyes closed to get the maximum rejuvenation effect. There wasn’t much that Tal could not do. If something needed doing, Tal did it without fuss or hesitation. Tal would have been the last to say he did anything extraordinary.

Born May 27, 1932, in Orillia, Ontario, to Gwendolyn and Gron Morgan, he was the second of four siblings. In 1945 the Morgan family moved to Port Arthur where he met his loving wife of 63 years, Gail Lindahl.

Gail and Tal were married on September 5,1953, by Tal’s father Gron. Over the next eight years the couple were blessed with three children. Michael, Karen and Andrew were Gail and Tal’s pride and joy. They lovingly put their energy into instilling a sense of family, faith, work ethic, respect and responsibility. They made sure that family was forefront, spending time with grandmothers, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Tal’s connection with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Vindictive began in November 1945 when he enrolled as a cadet. For the next 51 years he served the youth of the region, stepping into whatever function needing his energy, many of them multiple times. The number of young lives that he helped mold into exceptional adults are too many to count. His cadets and staff truly were his other family.

Tal spent his working life as an inspector with Canadian Grain Commission. He was an active member of First Baptist and St Paul’s United Church.

Tal’s capacity for caring and devotion were in evidence throughout his life but none more so than when Gail’s health began to suffer. He was unwavering in his love and support of Gail for the years that she struggled.

Tal was blessed to be able to live independently until his final days, thanks in large part to the support of his Thunder Bay family.

Tal is survived by his three children; Michael (Jocelyn), Karen (Ken) Day and Andrew (Jan), 5 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and his sisters; Mair Greaves and Sian Wright.

Tal’s family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the TBRHSC and the 2C nurses who cared for Tal with professionalism and compassion.

In his last years, Tal was often heard to quip, “we’ll just have to take it as it comes”. He had reached a place of peace and contentment for the full life that he had so wonderfully lived. And now we are left to take comfort in having known him, been taught, influenced and loved by him.

A Celebration of Tal’s Life will take place at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Fund, the Alzheimer’s Society – Thunder Bay, or to Breakthrough T1D. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
