Susan Elaine Ferguson

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Susan Elaine Ferguson, age 69, on April 22nd, 2026 at the TBRHSC after a lengthy and complex illness.

Born February 11, 1957 to John (Jack) and Valerie Ferguson at the Port Arthur General Hospital, she attended Oliver Road Public School, after which she graduated from Hammarskjold High School. Starting her career at the Real Estate Board, she then moved to Saskatchewan Wheat Pool in the engineering department, where unfortunately illness forced her to resign.

Susan married in 1978 and was blessed with two daughters, Nadine and Jenna. Susan built two homes in Ware Township in which she took great pride. Susan was an animal lover, having many pets throughout her life that were so special to her. Susan moved to the city in 2002, afterwards marrying her husband Eric Janhunen, and eventually calling Anten Street her home. Susan loved and took immense pride in gardening, usually beside her beloved Lucy and Joey. Her fabulous gardens are still talked about amongst the neighbourhood today. Susan had many talents, including stained glass, hosting dinners, witching wells, making jewellery, painting and collecting. Her biggest pride, however, was being a grandmother.

Susan is survived by her husband Eric, daughters Nadine (Lee), Jenna (Jamie), stepchildren David (Alicia), Catherine (Abraham), grandchildren Cora, Cheyenne, Neve, Dallas, Owen, Victoria, Isabella, Malachi, Gabriel, as well as several nieces and nephews. Susan was predeceased by her father Jack, her mother Valerie, her sisters Judy and Barbara, and her niece Jennifer.

We imagine Susan is now driving with the windows down in her Camaro, listening to Janis Joplin and The Doors.

A celebration of Susan’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Thunder Bay.
