Mary “Mona” Listmayer (nee Peltier)

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary “Mona” Listmayer (nee Peltier) announces her passing on June 7, 2026, at the age of 100, following a year of declining health.

Mona was born on September 24, 1925, in North Bay, Ontario, to Louis and Mona Peltier (nee Rutledge). She was the youngest of five children.  Following high school, she completed a one-year administrative program and began working at the Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

In 1952, Mona married the love of her life, Stephen Joseph Listmayer. Together they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage until Steve’s passing in 2019. They built a loving home and raised four beautiful children.

Mona was predeceased by her parents; her four siblings; her husband, Steve; and three of her children, Janet, Dwight, and Warren.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Anita Caruso (Frank); son-in-law, Bernard Chan; daughter-in-law, Joy Listmayer; grandchildren Grace (Bee) Chang, Alanna (Travis) Bechard, Andrew and Amy Listmayer, Carmine and Stephen Caruso, and Victoria (Frank) Benincasa; great-grandchildren Clara Bechard and Rowan Caruso; as well as several nieces and nephews. She shared a particularly special bond with her nieces, Sally Ross and Brenda Peltier.

Family was at the center of Mona’s life. She cherished her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Proud of her Peltier and Rutledge heritage, she had a keen interest in genealogy and enjoyed learning about family history.

Mona found joy in many simple pleasures. She loved her cats and enjoyed attending dances with Steve at the Branch#5 Legion and the 55 Plus Centre. She also cherished time spent at the family camp at McLeish Lake, which was a treasured gathering place for many happy memories. She was an avid follower of current events, faithfully reading the daily newspaper, clipping articles of interest, and sharing them with family and friends through letters. She also enjoyed old movies, radio programs, and watching the news.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the VON personal support workers who cared for Mona in her home over the past several years, as well as the staff of the Wesway Junot Home and the doctors and nurses of 2A at TBRHSC for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mona’s memory may be made to the Ontario Humane Society Northwest Animal Centre.

A private service has already been held. Interment has taken place at Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel. Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
