Gerald James Coreau

They say that ‘any man can be a father but it takes a true man to be a dad’.  This is so true when it comes to Gerald James Coreau.  Dad left this Earth in the late hours of April 19th, 2026 and is now on his journey to meet up again with his wife and true love.

Gerald (Jim) was born in Chapleau, Ontario along with his 3 brothers Fred, Bob and Doug.  As they all grew, parents Dorothy and Gerry eventually packed everyone up and moved to White River where dad worked through his teens at the gas station as a pump attendant.  The stories that he shared from his early years are etched in our memories.  Later, a move from White River to the two cities of Port Arthur and Fort William came to fruition and he worked for many years at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool on the rails and eventually landed him as a grain inspector for SWP up until his early retirement at age 56.

Jim loved to camp and fish.  Camping at Trowbridge Falls, White Lily Lake, Kopka Lake and then eventually they bought a trailer at Whitefish Lake, where he and mom spent a few years until mom’s unfortunate passing.  After that, Dad sold and pretty much became a homebody.  It wasn’t the same without Charlene at his side.

Jim is survived by his family, Kelvin & Mairead Coreau, Christopher & Kimberly Coreau and grandchildren Dana, Alex, Kristopher, Jewel, Hunter, his last remaining brother Doug in Australia and closest friend ‘Gizmo’.  He is now in the Heavens  in the care of his parents Joseph and Dorothy Coreau, his wife Charlene Ann Coreau, brother Fred of Winnipeg and brother Bob of Bolton, ON, and close friend Judy Hardy.  We would like to thank all of those that helped to keep him going all these years.  The staff of Toronto Hospital for giving his heart more longevity, the hard work of the staff at TBRHSC and his various specialists that kept him going until almost 83 years of age.  Also would like to say thank you to Auntie Joyce, his nephews Jason and Brent of Winnipeg, for their prayers and thank you Auntie Donna,  niece Carrie-Lyn and nephew Jason with wife Dianna for helping him out while we were in Toronto.  There was a request by dad for no funeral, so he will be set to rest beside Charlene in the near future.  Dad will be much happier now that he is in the care of Mom.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
