It is with heavy hearts the family of Dr. David Hoffman announce his peaceful passing on October 24, 2025.
David was born on July 20, 1940 in St. Catharines, Ontario to Vernon and Josephine. The family was settled in Port Colborne, Ontario where David spent his childhood alongside his younger brother Richard.
During high school, while singing in the Glee Club, David met the love of his life Barbara Lambert. Following graduation, David pursued his dream of becoming a physician, earning his medical degree from The University of Toronto. In 1963, David and Barbara were married. After a brief period practicing family medicine in Thunder Bay, David returned to Toronto to specialize in orthopaedics. In 1973, they made their home once again in Thunder Bay, where they raised their family.
David and Barbara shared a love of travel, and over the years they were fortunate to enjoy many beautiful trips together. David’s other passion was medicine, and after a long and distinguished career, he retired in 2018. David will always be remembered for his quiet generosity and the kindness he extended to others, touching the lives of his family, his patients, and his community in lasting and meaningful ways.
David will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Barbara, children Kristen Crouse (Guido Kang), David (Julie), Sue (Darren Scotinski), grandchildren Sara Crouse (Eric Rogers), Kyla Crouse, Lawson Crouse (Claire), Kenzie Hoffman, Nicholas Hoffman, and great granddaughter Isabel Crouse and his brother Richard.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff at Pioneer Ridge Plaza 2. Your sincere kindness, compassion and gentle care brought comfort to Dad in his final months, and to all of us as well. We are deeply grateful for the patience, dignity, and love you showed Dad each day. Your support meant more than words can express, and we will always remember your kindness and support.
Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Parkinson’s Canada, the Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of your choice in David’s memory. Online condolences may be expressed at www.sargentandson.com.
