Dorothy Marie Glenn

December 6, 1926 – April 27, 2026

Dorothy Marie Glenn (nee Evans) age 99 years passed away Monday, April 27, 2026. Dorothy was born on the family farm in Sunnidale Township, Simcoe County December 6, 1926. Education and learning were very important to Dorothy. Mid-WWII she answered the call to be a teacher serving in a one-room school at the age of 17 and attended Toronto Normal School to complete her teacher’s certification. She continued her teaching career at Camp Borden, then to Barrie and retiring from teaching to raise her children.

On August 19, 1950, Dorothy married a hometown man, the charismatic Kenneth Kell Glenn. Ken’s career in education took them to Kenora and then to Thunder Bay where they set down their roots. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Agate Bay in a home that witnessed many family milestones and provided friendly, supportive neighbours.

Highly organized and talented, Dorothy pursued many of her interests whilst ensuring that her three daughters excelled at school and extra-curricular activities. She mastered many skills including knitting, crocheting, quilting, painting, sewing, home decorating, gardening, golf, curling, swimming, family genealogy and more. She really enjoyed her crafting group of friends and her aquabics mates until she was no longer able to participate. Dorothy was an avid bridge player, looked forward to every game, and played her last game this past week. She was an active member of St. Thomas Anglican Church where she volunteered and worshiped with long-time pew mate Joyce Fossum.

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Ken, parents Olive Eva Mae and John Wilmot Evans and Evelyn Eleanor, sister Eileen Scruton and brothers-in-law Robert Scruton and Valentine Brucker.

She is survived by daughters Kathryn Ferrazzo (Gabriel), Mary Ellen Scott (Ray), and Laura Craig (Glenn); grandchildren Heather Evelyn McDonald, Joshua McDonald (Lindsay), Lauren Ferrazzo, Scott Evan Smith, Jessie Smith (Richard), and Sinclaire Craig; great-grandchildren Emily and Noah Josefchak, Lucas, Jack and Hannah McDonald, and Eva and Oliver Smith; and her sister Wilma Brucker.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, St. Thomas Anglican Church, or the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Northwest Animal Centre.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.
