Arthur “Neil” Simpson passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025 with his wife by his side.
Neil was born in Ormiston, Saskatchewan on February 26, 1935 but spent most of his life in Thunder Bay. Neil formed strong bonds with both family and friends through his warmth and integrity, always willing to lend a hand or give support when needed. He embraced his role as husband, father, friend and mentor with equal zeal, and his curiosity and energy could always make you feel that your time with him was his most important task.
Neil’s early adult life was dedicated to work and family. His work life at CN Rail formed lifelong friendships. As a union representative for many years, his commitment to justice and fairness were values that defined him. Neil was a kind and patient father to his three children. He taught by example and instilled a love of the outdoors and a dedication to family always.
Neil found renewed energy following retirement. He met his wife Doreen through friends, and together they travelled and enjoyed their life together for over 30 years. Summers were spent on construction projects and enjoying their time at Sturgeon Bay, while winters were spent in Arizona living life fully through cycling, dancing, woodworking, and shuffle boarding.
Left to celebrate his life and mourn his loss are his wife Doreen, his daughters Michele Gillard (John) and Marnie Kozub, and his son Neil (Kathy) as well as his six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Orma Kempe and brother Gordon (Joyce) and numerous nieces and nephews.
As per Neil’s request, there will be no service, and following cremation his ashes will be interred in a private ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
His was a life well lived.
