Northwestern MP Defends New Tariffs

Canada is fighting back against U.S. trade sanctions.

The government introduced $16.6 billion in new tariffs yesterday.

Kenora M.P. Bob Nault is defending the retaliatory measures.

While he calls the long list of new duties on American products “messy,” Nault claims Canada can’t just idly stand by while our economy is being attacked.

“What would be the alternative, to basically cave to what Trump’s wishes are in the NAFTA agreement?” Nault asks. “What he’s looking for, we’d be better off not to have a NAFTA agreement.”

Nault admits the trade war could result in higher costs for some consumer products coming from the U.S..
