More Funding For Local Festivals

City tourism officials are happy about the latest provincial money for local festivals and events.

Tourism Manager Paul Pepe says the province is out with a second round of Celebrate Ontario funding for events, bringing funding for five local events up to around $150,000.

The recent investment includes $80,000 for festivals in Northern Ontario this year.

The money is helping support the Festival of India, Festival of Colours, Franco Fest, Live on the Waterfront, and Wake the Giant Festival.

Pepe notes that helping these events gives an extra boost to the local economy.

“A lot of visitors will arrive in the city, find out that something is going on, like Live on the Waterfront or festivals, and actually extend their stay.”

He points out that means more money spent at restaurants, hotels, and businesses.
