Mauro Looking At Boosting Businesses

The city is hoping to encourage new business development.

At a meeting today, Mayor Bill Mauro met with city officials, the Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Commission, and says it was a productive discussion.

“We’re just trying to create some linkages and partnerships. I think there was at least one or two very good ideas that came up today that we think we can implement in short order to try and enhance business development within the city.”

Mauro did not reveal the details of any plans for how the city could work with the business community to remove barriers and make it more welcoming for companies.

A statement from the city notes one goal is to make the process of applying to start a business easier.

The Mayor adds he will meet again with the groups to look at the next steps.

Mauro indicates the meeting wasn’t prompted by recent business closures in the city.

Noting that he is relatively new to his role as Mayor, Mauro says “it is important for me to try to play a role in ensuring the climate for business development in the city of Thunder Bay is as positive as it can be.”
