There is some concern about removing our masks and getting closer to each other too soon.
Officials say a fourth wave of COVID-19 cases is being driven by the Delta variant.
Dr. Julie Swann, professor at North Carolina State University, says a team examined the impact of lifting public health guidelines back in January.
“We found that if you lift it before this population is really fully vaccinated, that you will see another surge,” she explains.
She notes the Delta variant, which is more contagious, is why it’s crucial to keep wearing your mask even if you are fully vaccinated.
“This virus can transmit when you’re still asymptomatic, and maybe you never really have any strong symptoms. I sometimes get a stuffy nose from allergies, how do I know if it from allergies or from COVID if I’ve been vaccinated It would be really difficult,” Dr. Swann argues.
Dr. Swann says their findings proved true when several U.S. States lifted their measures earlier this spring.
