Looking at ways to repurpose the former Dease Pool site.
Monday’s council meeting will look at the ideas that have come from the public engagement which was officially launched back in March.
“Administration will be specifically asking for a deferral of the report,” explains McKellar Ward Councillor Brian Hamilton. “With some of the consultation that has taken place, there is a missing piece there. We still want to have further consultation with the neighbors and neighborhood about the overall plan. It has been a vibrant discussion online, a lot of people have filled out the online surveys.”
The city has considered various options for the site already, including a pickleball or tennis court, as well as a skatepark.
Council in March voted in favour of proceeding with administration’s recommendation to examine the logistics of turning the space into a similar set-up to Marina Park.
Staff indicated that a budget of $253,000 is available to undertake the work.
Hamilton adds it’s critically important to get the Dease Park plan right with it being one of the few green spaces in the south core.
The 106-year-old site was demolished in 2020, and since then many local groups have been vocal in how they believe the site should be repurposed.
