Historical Park Gets $13M Boost

A provincial investment of almost $13-million is helping Fort William Historical Park make some much-needed improvements.

Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Lisa MacLeod announced the funding to finish off a ten-week tour around Ontario.

The majority of that money is paying for a second access road into the park, which General Manager Sergio Buonocore says will help avoid the traffic jams the park has dealt with when hosting major events.

The funding was put in place around a month ago, and construction has been underway for about as long. Buonocore expects the work will be done by the Fall of 2021.

The funding is also going to cover infrastructure repairs and help the park recover from flooding.

The government also announced another $1-million for local arts and tourism.
