High School Graduation Ceremonies Postponed

There will be no in-person graduation or dances for Lakehead Public School Board students this June.

Director of Education Ian MacRae tells us it was due to the concerns surrounding COVID-19.

“The difficulty at this time is that with the uncertainty of everything, and the likelihood of social distancing, and all of the different factors that go into a graduation, we thought at this time it would be best to postpone until a later date,” MacRae explains.

The Director of Education says he hasn’t heard from parents or students yet and expects they’ll be disappointed by the news. He adds diplomas will be mailed to students.

As for the Catholic School Board, their Director of Education says they are working with their graduation committee on a creative plan and recognize convocation ceremonies at the auditorium can’t take place.

“COVID-19 has inhibited many plans for everyone, and schools are no exception. We will recognize our students, their accomplishments and their future successes,” Pino Tassone says.
