Health Workers Rally At Hogarth Riverview

Contract talks are expected to resume for Unifor members at Hogarth Riverview Manor.

Union local Vice President Suzanne Pullice indicates she’s hopeful, claiming not much progress was made in the first three days of negotiations.

“It’s frustrating for our members who are sitting on the bargaining committee that are hearing this and again are giving their all, their best to the residents.”

Unifor members were rallying outside Hogarth to protest wage caps and under-staffing.

Meanwhile, St. Joseph’s Care Group provided the following response to our newsroom.

“Health care workers, including Personal Support Workers and Registered Practical Nurses, are in high demand across Canada, not just here in Thunder Bay. Hogarth Riverview Manor is presently operating 480 of a potential 544 beds as part of St. Joseph’s Care Group’s commitment to not open beds unless it is safe to do so. We will continue to find innovative ways to attract and train people interested in becoming Personal Support Workers, such as through our Tuition Assistance Program, our partnerships with post-secondary institutions, and the recently-announced Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot.” Said Tracy Buckler, President & CEO, St. Joseph’s Care Group.

“Our health care team at Hogarth Riverview Manor works very hard to make sure that our residents continue to receive excellent care. Our dedicated management team supports all staff, and for any staff member requiring additional support, St. Joseph’s Care Group provides a free Employee and Family Assistance Program.”
