Extra Funding Ensures Student Safety

An additional $500-million will be spent to keep Ontario staff and students safe in September.

The government says it will allow school boards to make adjustments locally, including using non-school property for smaller class sizes, and therefore more physical distancing.

$18-million will also improve on-line learning, including hiring more principals and staff to help students. Schools will continue to allow chances for students learning at home to return to class.

And, the government will spend $50-million for improved ventilation and air quality. There will be focus on older schools, especially in communities where there are more cases of COVID-19.

The province will allow school boards to dip into their reserve accounts to help with their back-to-school plans.
