Council Weighs Integrity Commissioner Options

After three City Councillors were found to be in conflict of interest, or breaching their Code of Conduct, the City is looking at its options.

The city’s Integrity Commissioner filed two reports in October, one dealing with Councillor Brian Hamilton on the Designated Truck Route By-law and the other looking at Councillors Brian McKinnon and Albert Aiello on the Junot Avenue transitional housing project.

They’ll hear their options tonight, which include asking the Commissioner to come to Council and answer questions, or asking them to get a judge or lawyer to provide a legal opinion on whether the Councillors broke the rules.

Council has until January 3rd to reply to the first report, and January 17th to reply to the second.

The Commissioner says Aiello should not vote on the Junot Avenue South project because he is the Executive Director of the neighbouring Boys and Girls Club.

As for Councillor McKinnon, the Integrity Commissioner concluded he went against a rule against undermining or working against Council’s decisions.

Councillor Hamilton was found in conflict on the designated truck route by-law because he is a business owner.
