Homeless Program Begins Another Season

A program to give homeless people shelter during cold winter nights is continuing for another season.

Bonnie Krysowaty of the Lakehead Social Planning Council suggests the ‘Out of the Cold’ program has shown its worth and points to some eye-opening data.

It shows the service was used almost 2,000 times mostly by Indigenous people and that over a third of users had no income at all. She says that aligns closely with the most recent “Point in Time” survey of homeless people.

The program received a $750,000 grant last year to fund it for three years.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
