City Benefited From 2017 Tourism Boost

The latest government figures show that in 2017, Canada welcomed the highest number of tourists in Canadian history.

That comes as no surprise to the city’s tourism manager Paul Pepe.

He notes it makes sense, “Looking at the attention that Canada has been getting globally as a destination,”

Pepe tells us Thunder Bay did see some impact from the increase in Canadian tourism.

Inquiries from international tour operators increased in 2017, although he admits the number of American tourists to the city decreased slightly last year. .

Pepe expects final tourism numbers for Thunder Bay to be ready in a couple of weeks. (File Photo)
