Canadian Released From China

Federal officials confirm a Canadian citizen has been released from Chinese custody.

Multiple media outlets are identifying that person as an Alberta teacher, and saying she has returned to Canada after being released Friday.

Richard Walker is a spokesperson for Global Affairs Canada and says this is not connected with the detention of two other Canadians in China whose arrests made headlines earlier this month.

He says they can only reveal that the detention was because of a work permit issue.

The federal official also denies that the teacher’s case has any connection with Canada’s arrest of a Chinese tech company executive.
