Bing and Bowie – 1977

Bing Crosby had a special guest appear on his Merry Olde Christmas special this week in 1977.

The show was taped just five weeks before Crosby’s death in October and shown on November 30th of that year.

David Bowie showed up to perform a holiday tune, but he refused to sing Little Drummer Boy, so the writers gave him lines from Peace on Earth as a counterpoint to Bing’s Drummer Boy.

The song ended up as a Christmas classic after being aired by MTV a few years later. David Bowie also got one of his tunes on the special introduced by Bing. Find out which one on The Retro Lounge, Sunday night at 6, brought to you by Backstage Music Store, Red River Road at St. Paul.
