Simpson Street buildings demolished after fire

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue demolished a group of buildings on Simpson Street near Hardisty on Wednesday as part of an effort to make sure nobody was lost to Wednesday’s blaze.

Demolishing the buildings was necessary due to the severity of the damage they endured.

Captain of Fire Prevention and Investigation Kevin Anderson has now confirmed that no lives were lost.

Anderson says that occupants had been living in the old Underground Gym, and had been seen as recently as Tuesday night, not long before the fire.

The cause of the fire is still a mystery: Anderson says the fire had been “too far gone” for the investigation to turn up any answers.
