Local Poppy Campaign Starts Friday

You can get a poppy to honour those who have served our country.

With less than two weeks until Remembrance Day, the boxes will go out to certain businesses on Friday. Cadets and veterans will begin handing out poppies on Saturday, November 6th, with your donation.

Poppy Chairperson and veteran Sharon Scott tells Acadia News that the annual service at Fort Williams Gardens has been scrapped again in 2021 due to not having enough volunteers to conduct the mandatory COVID-19 guidelines.

Open And Closed

Remembrance Day is a federal statutory holiday, which means LCBO and Beer Store locations will be closed, along will malls, banks, government offices and Canada Post locations.

Thunder Bay Transit will run on a holiday schedule.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
