Councillor Expects Little From Turf Meeting

One city councillor says her expectations are quite low for the April 29th meeting on the turf facility.

Northwood’s Shelby Ch’ng suggests with the stumbling block being the $45 million cost, it may be almost pointless to continue with the project.

“I’m not sure how much talking we can do to get this cost down, but if anybody has ideas I am open to suggestions. If not, I am willing to move on from this project,” confesses Ch’ng.

The councillor points out there is so little time to start the process over again, adding, “Really, we have a year and a bit left in our (council) terms and I don’t see how going back to the drawing board at this stage and this term of council is going to do anything.”

No decisions will be made at the meeting on the 29th, but the topic will be open for ideas.

The search for a new facility was spurred on following the collapse of the Sportsdome on the CLE Grounds in a November 2016 snowstorm.

It threw the soccer community into chaos since both men’s and women’s clubs were forced to cancel their seasons because there was no place to play.
