Local Youth Helping On Earth Day

Friday’s for Future Thunder Bay is pushing a pair of local initiatives which strive to hammer home the need to look after the planet, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Earth Month Challenge urges you to get involved in a number of ways including, doing a litter clean up, upcycling something, and also showing some creative expression of your love for the Earth.

The group also put out Thunder! Making noise in the age of climate denial which features drawings, digital illustrations, poems, and photography from children between the ages of twelve and eighteen.

Youth Organizer Keira Essex was drawn to the piece by Rory Smith entitled The Fate Of The Earth Is In Your Hands.

“[Rory] used sustainable and recycled materials to create a world for the piece” said Essex. “Rory used old newspapers that had articles about trees in them to talk about the importance of preventing deforestation.”

The group is sharing their work on their Facebook page and on Twitter.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
