AGCO Approves 11th Cannabis Store

There are now 11 cannabis stores in the city with the opening of High Society at Algoma and Cornwall.

Owner Yasas Weerasingha believes Thunder Bay can support that number of cannabis dispensaries.

“Ontario was looking at the modeling from Colorado and what they were suggesting was one store for every 10,000 people,” noted Weerasingha.

High Society is the sixth cannabis store in the city approved by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario in about the last month and a half.

Weerasingha tells us this was their third attempt at getting a licence since they first applied to the province in 2018, noting they have been paying rent on the property since March of last year.

There are still another eight local applications under consideration by the AGCO.

In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
