New LGBT Group Promoting Diversity

Celebration, respect, education and advocacy.

Those are just some of the goals of the Rainbow Collective of Thunder Bay, which launched to help the social movement in gender and sexual diversity, including those in the Two-Spirit and intersex communities.

President Jason Veltri feels the organization will add to the efforts of Thunder Pride.

“We’re here to add that capacity to the communities to take up a lot of the advocacy and the education work that still needs to be done. We all have a role to play,” Veltri adds.

The group aims to:

  • Celebrating people, no matter sexual or gender identities
  • Respect everyone for who they authentically are without prejudice
  • Provide education to build more inclusive communities
  • Advocate for those who are still struggling to see themselves in the community

“There is still so much more work to do to educate around gender and sexual diversity and our organization is here to fill that void. We will inspire change and build community, together with love and education,” adds Veltri, who also serves as the Chair of the Anti-Racism and Respect Advisory Committee.

Below are further comments from Jason Veltri:

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
