Thunder Bay’s mayor wants answers from the province.
It comes as coronavirus cases in the district show no signs of slowing down.
Bill Mauro has fired off a letter to Solicitor General Sylvia Jones concerning the spread of COVID-19 as the result of the outbreaks at the District Jail and the Correctional Centre.
He tells the Solicitor General the cases in the community are the result of not enough front-line staff to help get those people into the isolation centres and to keep them there until their quarantine period is over.
“We have had some external organizations come to the City to assist with the shortage of staff but we have ongoing concerns related to both staffing and funding of isolation shelters, “states Mauro.
The mayor is asking for assurances policy changes have been made to ensure those released from those facilities are properly cared for and not at risk for spreading the virus once they are released.
