Three decades with any organization is impressive, maybe more so in the public sector.
General Manager Mark Smith will call it a career after starting his working days with the corporation in 1980’s on a contract basis.
Smith was then hired as a planner in 1991 before becoming the manager of that division a few years later.
It was 2000 when Mark Smith took on the title as the General Manager of what was then known as the Planning and Building Department.
Smith’s retirement days will include spending time with his family and serving on the Lakehead University’s Board of Directors.
The General Manager’s advice to whoever replaces him: Get out from behind the desk, when it’s safe to do so, and meet people.
