COVID-19 Outbreak Declared Among Homeless

An Outbreak of COVID-19 declared among those who are homeless or precariously housed in the city.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says recent enhanced testing and surveillance shows a small but significant increase in positive tests.

In addition, in the follow-up with individuals identified with COVID-19, public health has not always been able to establish a clear link with other cases suggesting that some spread of the virus has happened in this community.

Significant measures have already been put in place, including enhanced testing and surveillance, static bed lists at shelters, and the expansion of the isolation shelter.

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
