UPDATE: More COVID-19 Cases In Schools

A few schools in the city dealing with positive cases of the novel coronavirus.

The local health unit identified a COVID-19 case associated with Pope John Paul II Senior Elementary School.

The situation also affects a pair of bus cohorts, with one impacting St. Patrick.

All parents, guardians and staff of the in-school cohort were dismissed Wednesday afternoon and will be contact by a public health nurse.

Officials indicate the cohorts will remain home and a thorough cleaning and disinfection process will be underway within the school.

Meanwhile a potential case at Westgate CVI is now positive after officials went on the offensive earlier in the week to try and halt any further spread of the virus.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says at this juncture there’s no evidence that the virus has spread in the school setting.

At McKellar Park Central School additional cohorts have been dismissed after more investigation of the initial COVID-19 cases. The health unit and the board are confident in saying there’s no evidence that the virus has spread in the school setting.

At St. Martin School the health unit confirms a positive COVID-19 case. The person in question is isolating at home and has been in contact with Public Health.

The health unit’s investigation determined that students, staff and school community are considered low risk for COVID-19 at this time, which means in-person learning can continue.
