Man Escapes A Nolalu Chimney Fire

Investigators continue to look in the exact cause of a chimney fire in Nolalu.

Initially members of the emergency services team were asked to do a medical wellness check on the man who wasn’t feeling well; However upon arrival the resident was seen as unresponsive through a window with smoke filling the house.

Chief Sarah Shoemaker says firefighters were forced to break a window to make entry into the home Tuesday night.

“Firefighters are trained to be prepared for anything, but arriving on a scene to provide a medical wellness check, and instead finding visible smoke in the residence isn’t something anyone expects,” Chief Shoemaker indicate. “I’m just happy that we were in the right place at the right time 15, even 10 minutes later and the results of this call could have been drastically different. All of our responders are trained as both medical first responders and firefighters so we were able to easily transition from medical response to firefighting.”

The man is expected to make a full recovery.
