The message is different from the United Way of Thunder Bay.
It’s the start of RECOVER 2020 and officials are asking you to stay away as part of the No-Show Gala
CEO Albert Brulé on why this is the campaign of our lives… “COVID-19 has dramatically, profoundly impacted the lives of so many in our community. It’s especially hit those who are vulnerable, already experiencing poverty, coping with mental health issues and challenges to do with addictions or domestic violence”.
The concept replaces the annual Community Impact Breakfast.
Brulé notes his organization has been there for those in need, even in the early stages of the pandemic.
“Programming was disrupted, events for fundraising cancelled… so you have this double whammy of increased demand for services and decreased resources. We felt the need, alongside the Thunder Bay Community Foundation, to step in there and try and assure that groups and organizations had those extra resources and we were able to do that”.
Brulé points to individuals helping as well: “We had seniors come to us when they got their seniors benefit from the federal government and say ‘I don’t need this but there are others that do. I know the United Way will make sure it gets to where and who needs it the most’ “.
