Food Security Funding From The Federal Government

Food security funding from the Federal Government to the Thunder Bay-Rainy River riding.

$413,210 going to several organizations… Executive Director Volker Kromm says the demand for food slowed in the summer thanks to the CERB initiative.

“People had sufficient money at that time, but now as kids are going back to school, some demand on local food banks is up 50 percent” notes Kromm.

MP Marcus Powlowski isn’t sure what will replace CERB: “Hopefully there’s not going to be a big gap there for a lot of people. Hopefully the need for food banks will remain reasonable. Even at the best of times there was always a need for food banks”.

The funding can be attributed from the $100 million Emergency Fund announced last April.
