Thunder Bay’s Regional Hospital is using the recent setback of a potential exposure of COVID-19 as a learning moment.
Dr. Stewart Kennedy says having a doctor test positive for COVID-19 allowed them to see what they were doing right, and if there health and safety protocols worked.
“This unfortunate occurrence was a good test case for us and for many health care institutions across Ontario. It allowed us to look at potential in breakage in protocols and searching down the contacts with the doctor who tested positive,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy says the setback has led them to be behind on their elective surgeries, something they’ll be ramping up in the coming months.
“We are going to see how the next few weeks go. Our recovery team is looking at how to increase the surgery volume in a step wise and logical approach that is safe for the patients and safe for the staff,” Kennedy added.
