January 1st Marks 50th Anniversary For City

Midnight marks the official start to the City’s 50th anniversary.

City Clerk Krista Power explains why Thunder Bay’s celebrations fall on New Years Day.

“We amalgamated on January 1st, 1970 and it resulted in a late-night council meeting.”

January 1st there will be a toast to the Queen and city officials will be opening up a time capsule that was put together in 1995.

Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor is taking part in the celebrations, she will be taking part in the festivities at the Fort William Historical Park today and then toasting the Queen at the O’Kelly Armoury.
