Awesome Opportunity for Local Artists!

A couple of cool opportunities for artists! The City is looking for artwork proposals for two different projects. First up, art on wheels! In honour of the 50th anniversary of the amalgamation of Fort William and Port Arthur into the city of Thunder Bay, a Thunder Bay Transit bus will be decked out with art. The deadline to get your pitch in is January 15th, 2019.

Although today feels like a snow day, there will be an official celebration on Family Day! On Monday, February 17th, the city will toss the annual SnowDay bash! Snow Sculptors, this is your chance to show your stuff! The themes for this year are the City’s amalgamation and sports through the ages. The deadline for your team to apply is January 8th at noon.

Find out all you need to know about the Call to Artists, including how to enter, on the City’s website! Click here.

Now I don’t fancy myself much of an artist but I’m thinking of putting a submission in for the art bus. In honour of the city’s anniversary, I’m submitting this portrait of Mornings in the Bay host John Ongaro. After-all, there’s nothing more T-Bay than our pal, John!

  • Originally from southern Ontario, Jason found his way here and fell in love with the community and music scene of Thunder Bay over twenty years ago. In between various stints on radio, television and writing, Jason is a dad, a partner and (some would consider) a zoo keeper (seriously, he has a LOT of pets).
