Food Being Flown To Remote Communities

Thunder Bay’s airport is going to be hopping today for the annual fundraiser Sounds of the Season.

A number of remote fly-in communities will receive food hampers in time for Christmas. Brendan Carlin is with the Regional Food Distribution Association and tells us they have 11 aircraft flying around 68,000 pounds of healthy food to 13 remote communities.

Four companies have donated aircraft to transport the food north from Thunder Bay. The day-long event brings in food and money to support the RFDA and remote First Nation communities.

Carlin says this fundraiser has come a long way from being an open house and food drive to actually flying food into communities. Money and donations can be made throughout the day at the airport.
