Four Christmas trees remembering missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls burn bright at the Thunder Bay police headquarters on Balmoral Street.
They were lite last night, with the goal to raise awareness and a $50,000 reward leading to the conviction of anyone responsible for the thousands unsolved cases nationwide. Police Chief Sylvie Hauth sent out a challenge to all other police departments across Canada to adopt this event.
There’s a GoFundMe page, which you can access by clicking here. The Ontario Native Women’s Association has made a contribution.
Constable Sharlene Bourdeau came up with the idea after learning between 1,000 and 4,000 cases remain unsolved.
